Get Your Home Prepared for Summer Fun!

Summer is officially here!

Now that the kids are out of school in South Florida, it's time to prepare your home for summer fun. We are all aware that summer is a busy time for parents having to resume their job responsibilities while ensuring that their children are tended to. Although it can be exhausting, one way to ease the load is to prepare accordingly for the summer months while family and friends are more likely to visit your home constantly. These tips will help ease your mind and help your home remain suitable for the season:

  • Clean your patio/pool area: Cleaning your patio or pool area is highly important as it will likely be where family and friends will gather. The site should be pressure cleaned, and all algae or moss build-up should be removed. Outdoor tables, chairs, and all furniture should also be wiped down to remove dirt or dust. If you have an outdoor BBQ or grill, that should also be cleaned out thoroughly so that food can be cooked safely and enjoyed. If you have leaves in your outdoor area, they should be removed because they can attract unwanted bugs and critters.
  • Clean out the fridge and freezer: Before you stock up your fridge and freezer with all the summer goodies like ice pops, watermelon, and lemonade, make sure it's clean. All shelves should be wiped down, expired food should be tossed in the trash, and ice cube trays should be cleaned out thoroughly. If you have ice built up in your freezer, an ice scraper should be used to remove it. If you notice that food in your freezer has a freezer burn, it's probably best to throw it away and replace it with a fresh one.
  • Clean the windows: Although it's hard to believe, summer being here means that half the year has already come and gone, which means your windows probably have not been cleaned in six months or more. Being that Florida has such high humidity, this can be a recipe for disaster for windows because it can encourage mold growth. Protect your windows and keep them in good condition by maintaining their cleanliness. The windows should be lathered and cleaned to perfection to promote long-term maintenance.
  • Change your air filter: How often do you change your air filter? With the constant in and out of summer, staying on top of your air filter is highly important during this time of year. Dirty air filters harbor dust and harmful bacteria that also linger in your home. Who wants to spend their summer being sick? We assume you don't! So, ensure you have a fresh air filter every summer month to keep those pesky germs away. Clean air filters aren't just crucial for reducing the chances of becoming sick, they also keep your air conditioner working correctly, and we all know how crucial it is to have a functioning air conditioner in the South Florida heat.
  • Clean the kitchen counters: The summer months in Florida are known to attract bugs. Therefore, the kitchen counters should be cleaned to avoid ants and roaches. Despite it being bug season, you want to make sure your home is presentable to potential guests that may come over and having clean kitchen counters is always a good look.
  • Clean the garbage disposal: Garbage disposals collect food that can turn moldy and rot quickly. Prevent unwanted odors from engulfing your home by having a clean garbage disposal. Never stick your hands in the garbage disposal, as this can cause serious bodily harm or injury. If you do not feel comfortable cleaning it, don't hesitate to get in touch with the proper professionals to do so.
